For clarity, the premium adjustment you’re referencing resulted from an external, independent audit conducted by a third-party vendor on behalf of the insurance carrier. During that audit, an undisclosed 1099 contractor exposure was identified, which required a correction to the policy’s payroll and classification information. In commercial insurance — particularly with workers’ compensation and general liability policies — independent audits are standard practice to ensure premiums accurately reflect the actual risk and business operations during the policy term. When additional exposure is discovered, the carrier issues an audit adjustment bill accordingly. As an agency, we do not control or perform these third-party audits, nor do we determine the additional premium owed. That said, we absolutely strive to communicate audit results clearly and help our clients understand how and why adjustments occur. We regret if there was any breakdown in communication regarding the final audit notice.
